There is a sensor for the oil light. Side of the head if I remember. If your manual gauge says okay but the light comes on it’s more than likely the oil pressure sensor it’s called a oil pressure sending unit.

But if you remove that sensor and test oil there and it’s low then you have internal motor issues. Most likely the screen in the cam phasers assembly.

Then a sensor is bad. There is 2. One down by the oil filter base and I believe the second is on the head. Long as everything is in spec the ECU is just getting false information from a sensor.

I see this is an older thread but since there are so many informative posts I thought it might be worth adding to. My 2011 with 140k miles has the oil pressure / stop light coming on upon first acceleration. It is fine idling when you start but as soon as you take off, it come on. Usually the light will go out. I put a manual test gauge on and pressure stays in the 40-45 psi range with no visible fluctuation. I did pull the cam bridge and fished out the blown out screen but that didn't make a difference.

Should I assume balance shafts or is it worth checking something else?

Thanks for any help.

I have a similar issue with the oil light coming on when the engine reaches heat after about 15 minutes. I also recently got a p0314 camshaft position sensor fault. Have change both oil pressure senser and camshaft sensor. Done full oil change and dropped the pan to change gasket and clean out the old small flake.
the oil intake was clear and the timing belt looks sound so I’m thinking the tensioner is on its way out. Allowing a little slack. This is why I get camshaft sensor oil pressure and the engine just doesn’t feel tight.
I figure send it in for a tensioned replacement. Any thoughts here would be appreciated.
I also have low mpg around 20.

Hi, Guys.
I have the same issue of the low pressure oil light after drive for a feel kilometers. No leaks and the oil level go under after some days that I changed it.
I observe that the tempetature of the oil is too hot that transform it in oil steam, and it burn with the gasoline by the PCV valve.
The problem was the heat changer that have a insufficient water flow and made the oil fry literally. This component is the one that receive water directly from the water pump, in the front of the engine, and change heat with the engine oil.
Hope that you guys solve yours problem too.
Regards from Brazil.

Hi guys,

I have a 2012 Tiguan TSI 2.0 with 130,000 miles. I get the red low oil pressure stop car warning light intermittently. After maybe 30 min of driving, it comes on, then right after three beeps, it goes off. It started after I took it to the dealer for an oil change. After I left, the light went on. I took it back, and they changed the oil pressure switch/sensor and another oil change. They also said that the oil pressure was checked and within spec.
A couple of days after, I got a yellow engine warning light and had it checked. It was p0301. So I switched the plug wire 1 with 2, and the light went off. The red oil pressure warning still goes off, so I took my Tiguan to another mechanic to check the oil pressure. He said it's within spec, at the low end but in spec. I asked what could help with this issue, and he recommended an oil pump and pickup tube. So I had that done. It worked for a while, but now it's back. I took it back to where I had the oil pump changed out, and they said the oil pressure was within spec, no oil leaks were found and can't replicate the warning; all good.
The mechanic said that if it keeps coming up, I may need a new/used engine. I was driving the car to the store a couple of days ago, and the car wanted to stall; the yellow engine warning light went on and off, so I had a code reader hooked up to it, and it gave me p0304.
So now no yellow engine warning lights but the red low oil pressure light comes on after 30 minutes of driving; it goes on, then three beeps and off.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
I have the same problem. I’m my 2012 Tiguan. I was told it can be my po299 that’s the supercharger turbo under boost. So I purchased it now waiting to be installed. This week. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Will keep you updated.

I have not solved the light issue, However, I just grounded out the oil pressure sensor so the light no longer comes on and will be installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge in order to monitor oil pressure. When I installed my test gauge and drove the car, pressure never dropped below 30 psi which should be sufficient. From everything I've been reading, the balance shaft bearings are the most likely culprit for throwing the light.

We'll see how this works out. I'm not sure if jumping out the sensor will create other issues for the computer.

Just an update: I finally installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge and as mentioned in January, I soldered a ground wire into the oil pressure sender wire to over-ride the "low oil pressure stop car" warning light. The car has not had any codes so I'll be driving it "as is". The oil pressure is a little low, 35-40 psi driving, 15-20 idling. My hope is the balance shaft bearings are causing the drop in oil pressure and that if it proves too be a progressive problem, that it will take many miles to cause a catastrophic failure.

If and when the engine fails, I'll post an update. for now... Back on the road again.

I have been on this forum as I have run into a similar problem with my Tiguan. 2011 with 205,000km's. After changing oil multiple times, changing the oil pressure sensor, nothing seemed to be fixing the issue. It appeared to drive fine, wasn't leaking, no motor shake, mileage was starting to get poor but I chalked that up to being an old car. Brought it into the dealership and they discovered oil pressures were extremely low. Reading at 7 PSI and dropping as RPM's rose (normal PSI readings should be 30-50 PSI). They said this could be so many different issues, and given the age of the car and number of parts that would need replacing a repair bill would be $4-5,000 with no guarantee this would solve the issue. They said the car needs a new motor and quoted at $12,000. Long story short, if you're having this issue, bring it in right away and get your oil pressure tested immediately.

My 2012 Tiguan just started this nonsense as well. I've also had the TurboCharger misfire code for like a year now. Im at 130,000 miles and ready to just get a new car at this point. Driving this thing gives me constant anxiety and I drive A LOT for work - before throwing in the towel I thought I would check to see if anyone had made any progress?

We've been trying to sell this one off (cheap) because of the ongoing problems with no takers (we are honest about the problems). I'm convinced this is is just a terrible engine and complete overhaul or replacement is the only solution (which we're not about to do on a 14 year old car). If I had to make an uneducated guess based on everything I've read, the balance shaft bearings are the main culprit and engine removal is required for replacement. "Throwing in the towel" is the right answer in my humble opinion.

hello i seem to have found the issue with my oil pressure being low on a 2019 Tiguan 2.0 as i was getting the low oil pressure light and CEL and some symptoms were i would rev it up, and it would go awa,y but come back on on idle and also ecp light and 3k rpm limiter also but any way i found it was due to a oil filter adpater valve missing i am making a youtube video over the issue as we speak should be out in a few days thank you -- youtube is chacon63s
