Thanks Tiggy12 for sharing your experience. Unfortunately for me, engine flush and oil and filter change didn't work in my case, so I showed the car to VW, they diagnose wrong oil pressure in the variable timing system, so they change all: 4400$!
But I think I don't have choice, let's hope after that it will be reliable...

I got a 2014 Tiguan and that light came up while I was camping. I really got scared because there was no mechanic around. I checked the oil and it was fine, So I drove to the nearest town (20 minutes away - 14 miles). While Driving there the light did not come up until I parked. But the mecahnic said it must be the oil sensor because everything looked fine. On my way home (300 miles) the light did not come up at all. Now that I'm home, I dont drive much around because I work from home. While here, in the short drives I had made the light has not come up. I'm not a mechanic, but I have heard stories about unnecessary charges with dealerships. My question to all, should I take it to any mechanic or to the dealership? I'm a regular guy with a regular job always on a budge. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm having the same problem with my Tiguan. It refused to turn back on after the low oil warning popped up, but the oil levels were fine. I had it towed to a dealership and they said I need a new engine. I'm getting a 2nd opinion and currently waiting for that.

The camshaft sensor went out about a week before this. Wonder if it's related.

I'd love to read the answer to this as well

Hi,
You might need to see this.

I seem to be getting the same problem although when cold. I initially put half a litre of oil in last week as was on minimum. Then yesterday had oil pressure come on after moving off from cold. Topped oil up by 300ml which was half way on the dipstick. Drove off this morning and the oil warning buzzer and switch engine off came on.

I would be doing a oil change, filter change, engine flush etc

Hi, I own a 2011 Tiguan and had this issue on and off for the last year or so. It was very occasional at first and only on hot days. However it has persisted into winter and became so annoying I had to take it in to be looked at properly by VW. After 2 months of replacing sensor, oil pan and other parts they have finally determined it was carbon deposits in the balance shaft. The mechanic said he'd never ever seen this issue on a VW before! So I hope this helps some of you, as it was driving me crazy and also the mechanic.

I have now realise why the oil pressure light came back on after 2 days. It appears that I have an oil leak now. Noticed at the nearside front (drivers side) oil on the ground. I removed the engine undertray and noticed that the intercooler hose was covered in oil. The nearside intercooler hose seemed to have coolant underneath it  although coolant header tank is still full.
It appears at a glance that it may be coming through the ends, possibly o-rings? The sump is not wet with oil, nor drain plug or engine block

The coolant leak was not from the intercooler pipe. I was confused as to how it got there. i realised it was the auxiliary water pump above it leaking down onto it.
I would start a new thread about my various repairs.

Svend, you’ve left us hanging. Did it work? I have a 2017 Tiguan with less than 65k miles. I took my car in for a routine oil change. I always change the oil between 3 and 5k miles - I don’t ever wait the 10k. I’m the 2nd owner, and the previous owner also services the car every 3 to 5k miles. About 30 miles after the oil change, the alert of low oil alarmed. For the past 2 weeks now the car has been towed twice, the mechanic has so far changed the filter twice, has changed the sensor, and has changed the oil pump. I picked up my car yesterday, and today the alert alarmed again. He has checked everything, so not sure what is causing it. He suggests that maybe it’s an electrical issue. Thankfully it’s still under warranty. Any ideas?

Hello, I'm facing a similar problem with my vehicle. The oil pressure warning light appeared after an oil change work. I visited a nearby auto workshop where a mechanic suggested that the issue was with the oil pressure sensor. However, after driving the car, it suddenly shut off. I had the car towed back to the previous garage where they found problems with the timing out , leading to bent valves and a broken plastic gear. These components were replaced, but the oil pressure warning light persists. then again I changed the sensor, oil pump, and crankshaft bearing, but the problem remains. I'm feeling quite frustrated and uncertain about the next steps to take. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.

Hi mate, mine is 2009 model TIGUAN and I have almost exactly the same issue after 100k. It happens around half hour drive. Started by inteval warning, if I keep driving, the low engine oil red sign eventually keeps flashing. Driving in high speed can last a bit longer but still shows the warning after maybe one hour.

Since they are so many similar cases, just wondering if we ignore it, if it's eventually will cause engine failure? Thanks.
I bought a 2010 Tiguan to my daughter in 2017 and she's been driving (and ignoring the signal) for the last 6 years now...
I drove the car last week and very annoying when driving in city, no beep when driving on motorways

I had the similar issue about 2 months ago intermittent red oil light (seemed to only come on under 2000 rpm) and so my brother changed oil pressure switch twice (thought 1st was defective), replaced oil pickup tube, replaced oil pump, and still intermittent oil light until he added Lucus Oil stabilizer by replacing 1 quart of 5w40 Full Synthetic. So each oil change I use a quart of Lucas and 2.8 qts 5w40 Full Synth.

I had the same issue about 2 months ago in my 2011 Tiguan (180,000 miles currently) intermittent red oil light after an oil change and so my brother changed oil again adding 5w40 Liquimolly and oil light still came on intermittently. So he then changed oil pressure switch twice (light still came on) , oil pickup tube, oil pump,. All above and light continued to come on until he drained oil only adding about 3 qts and Lucus

Hello everyone! I have the same problem, performed an engine oil flush, changed oil pressure sensor and checked the oil pressure. The warning light still comes on. Not sure where to go from here? The light used to come on after the engine warmed up (15-20 minutes). Now it comes on when the engine reaches 2,000 rpm's regardless if the engine is warm or not. Any suggestions on what to check next?

Screens on the cam phasers are need of cleaning. How was the oil pressure on a gauge when checked?

I’d change the sending unit to the gauge then.
