Have posted it in the 'Modifications and How to Guides' section as a new topic. Thanks for your help.

Just for the record, I've removed the front section of the centre console and there is nothing behind it.

I'm now giving up on this voice activation project, it's just too time consuming for very little benifit. I thought it would be easy (as it would have been if the BT module was under the seat).

HI rtigtony,

I have a UK spec R Line 2.0 TDi 177 DSG 2014 and also I can not find the bluetooth module. I installed an RNS 510 in place of an RCD 510. Having read you posts I like you gave up looking as well. Decided to try a simple option and bought an oem microphone, just wired it into the RNS plug and taped it behind the credit card slot next to the hazard light switch. This second microphone works perfectly and the other microphone operates with the bluetooth. All voice control works and I still have full bluetooth an telephone function.

Hi Malc163,

Brilliant, I never thought to use a second microphone, what a really simple solution.

I assume you wired in the second microphone to terminals 1 and 7 in the green plug going into the RNS510, correct?

Could you tell me which microphone you used and where to get it.

Thank you so much for sharing your solution, I'm sure lots will now carry out this simple mod to regain a feature which VW removed.

Yes I just connected direct into pin 1 & 7 using a kit from Kufatec UK. Search fo part no 37115 and select option with microfon. This will mean you get a microphone and wiring lead. The lead includes the pins which fit direct into the locations 1 and 7. Easy plug an play. My next challenge is to fit a reverse camera.

Good luck. MAL163

Thank you for the info Malc163. I'd also be interested in your project with the reverse camera, but I definitely think it will be more of a challenge.

The parts are arriving today for the highline camera kit. As soon as I have the kit I will post photos and details of the install as it goes. The challenge I believe is running the cabling from the front to the back.

Here are three topics Malc163 that may help you out further. I didn't read each and every post in these three topics to see if your specific question is answered, but since I found these related ones I thought I may as well pass them along. No charge. ;)

hi i've had same problem as you've had, could'n't find bluetooth

best thing to do is go to main dealers.

i did & gave them car reg & they gave me a printout of what was on my car & what was'n't.

needless to say ive got to buy bluetooth module.

ive got rcd510 fitted but want to change to rns510.

this is my next move along with bluetooth module & reverse camera

Bluetooth is built in to rcd510s but not on rns510s. Voice activation is a separate option and isn't a standard option as far as i know.

Unless it's different in the UK?

NZTIGUAN is correct it's not built into the RCD or RNS 510's but is the RNS315

Hi rtigtony,

Did you carry out this mod. My RNS510 arrives tomorrow, I'm doing the same as you swapping out an RCD510 with hands free bluetooth but it's not under the driver's seat! I'll look at the voice activation whilst it's all out. Thanks.

I have posted on here before on this matter of the bluetooth module and RCD/RNS Hu's. It is supposed to be under the driver's seat, it is not on my 2013 2.0 tdi and I cannot find it nor can anyone advise me.

In ElsaWin it only gives the position as under the driver's seat, so TiGeoff the hunt is on.

Hi TiGeoff and jayro,

I did carry out the wiring mod, but I still couldn't get it to work. Another forum suggested that VW had changed the position of the wiring in the blue plug in the quadlock and you had to move wires around between pins 2 and 3. It all got so difficult and time consuming that I gave up. So much just to get voice control didn't seem to be worth it in the end.

I never did find the BT module. My son works for VW and he confirms that it is shown as positioned under the drivers seat............... but it isn't. I can only assume that on the later TIGs (2013 onwards) it's built into the RCD510 and the later RNS510's.

I also fitted a microphone to an RNS510 (but in my Golf) as you say into one of the plugs in the quadlock. I was not impressed by the voice regognition performance despite using a high quality carphone mic.

My veiw also that it is a wase of time. The rest of the RNS 510 i have always been happy with.
