No, not yet Bambazonke, have been very busy in the run up to xmas and during the festive season, so haven't got round to searching yet.

I've asked myself if all this is worth it just for the sake of using spoken commands, but I won't be beaten.

Interestingly, my son is a 'technician' (mechanic) in a VW dealers and according to the current maintenance data that they have, he tells me that it's still showing it under the drivers seat, which is clearly wrong. This was after he accused me of being a silly old duffer for not being able to find it under the seat. He had to eat humble pie after he looked and couldn't find it either. Without a job number he cant ask VW technical people for an answer either, so it's down to me to do a bit more searching when I have the time.

I'm coming to the conclusion, as you told me in an earlier post, that it must be located between the head unit and the climate controls, as I can't see any other free space for it. Why VW would want to relocate it from an easily accessible position under the seat amazes me, but saying that, VW also put the rear parking sensor sounder in the soundproofed boot making it barely audible, so I don't know why I'm amazed with VW.

No, sorry, I just haven't had the time to mess around with it yet, but I will.

Do you have the RNS 510 or the RNS 315.

As stated in the original post, it's the RNS 510

Well today, I have taken out the headunit and the bluetooth module is not located between the headunit and the aircon control panel. Its also not behind the glovebox which someone else suggested. I'm really running out of places to look.

Thanks for your help n4s. I have looked under the seat again, pulled the carpet up, got my hand in underneath the carpet, and the only things that are under that carpet are 1 electrical junction for the seat electrics, and the 2 heating ducts going to the rear passenger foot well. The Bluetooth module is not there.

oh, just saw your photo, for some reason I missed it. Really impressive, maybe it's in the boot, in the side close to park-assist, even so it would be a big big cable, don't see the point. When you took out your glove box did you saw any cable coming from the radio, when I retrofitted my BT it was there I placed it.

Yes, I saw the cable from the radio, but not sure what you are meaning. The mic cable coming from the overhead console to the Bluetooth unit needs to be cut and joined into the cable and green plug coming out of the RNS510. It should go into pins 7 and 1 in the green plug, and then make a mic output from pins 4 and 9 to the bluetooth unit. This then allows voice dialling via the button on the steering wheel. Everso simple. I suppose the other way would be to trace the mic cable from the overhead console but not keen on taking bits of trim off. I'm rapidly reaching the point where its just not worth having voice command and giving up.

FOUND IT.

The bluetooth module is bolted to the top of the transmission tunnel underneath the center console underneath the auto hold switch area.

If you remove the rubber liner from the right hand cubby hole underneath the center arm rest (the one with the mp3 player plug) you can just see it. But to get to it you need to remove the entire center console. I thought just the arm rest section could be removed, but no, it has to be the entire center console.

I'm not going to all that work just to get voice commands, so will now investigate breaking into the mic cable from the overhead console.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me on this quest.

Does make you wonder why VW moved the B/T unit from under the seat to the center consul? Maybe they suffered from water ingress with leaks from the sun roof! IMO

My Tig has drawers fitted under each seat.

It would make sense to have this space clear in all Tigs so drawers can be fitted if requested.

Just my thoughts.

Not so sure about that as that is where the electronic brake module 53 is located. It would be a very tight fit to have both modules there. They look similar. My gut feeling is that it it would be located further forward in front of the gear lever. I have a PDF of how to remove the centre console which is a 2 stage process which involves removing the front part first (easy) then the back part which is not difficult just time consuming. I have done it a couple of times when wiring up my infotainment CANbus wires for my compass located in the rear roof liner to the MDI terminal as the wires that I had were too short to run to the radio or BT unit

You could be right Bambazonke, I can't see it that clearly, only being able to see through the slots of the cubby hole. I immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was the Bluetooth module. I would be very interested in your PDF on how to remove the centre console so that I can determine if what I'm seeing is the Bluetooth module. Would it be possible to post it on here?

PDF sent feel free to post it on the forum I am operating off my 3G iPad at present
