Hi all,

I want to buy new tyres for my tiguan (new one, 2015 dated). Do I need TPMS sensor for the tyres? I hope not :)

I had the tyre pressure measuring kit on my last car, I had the front two replaced and they just moved the sensors over, is this not true of the Tiguan?
AFAIK the Tigs with the reset button uses the ABS to read the tyre pressures and the ones without use sensors (which will have to be changed over.)

Unless I've got this wrong, it appears that people aren't quite answering the question that's been put.

The OP is only changing the tyres so nothing needs to be done with either setup.
But you are required to change the tyre valves every time you change the tyre, so the tyre fitters might not replace the sensors (as I have witnessed a few times before.)

Tyre pressure monitoring system
Has sensors and will come with the car and displays the tyre pressures on one of the MFD screens if you paid for the option
There is a load option in the setup for full or half load

according to my manual the valves which are made of aluminium and have the sensors fitted too, should be replaced every 6 years and only need replacing before if they get damaged or bent

it may well be that the sensor were not fitted back because they did not have the correct valve to fit them to, so if the tyres need changing make sure they have the right valves first

Tyre pressure loss indicator
This uses the data from the ABS sensor in relation to the rolling circumference

This must be re synced when ever the tyre pressures are changed or the wheels moved around or the spare fitted and is done via the tyre pressure option on the MFD according to my manual for the current 2015 Tig and was no different on my 2012 Tig

The difficulty here is that there are several different systems that have and are being used on the Tiguan. The non-sensor versions use the ABS and either have a reset button in front of the gear shift or in later models have it on the MFD. The original sensor version either reset itself over time or had to be reset by the dealer or using VCDS. The very latest sensor version that displays individual tyre pressures I believe is also an MFD reset though I could be mistaken there as I haven't had any actual experience of it. My point is that there are various systems, some model based, some country based, some year based and it can be extremely difficult to be certain which any Tig has without investigating the individual vehicle. So, beware of well meant advice that may or may not apply to your car !!!

Cheers
