Tiguan Mk1 dynamic wing mirror indicator

I cracked my near side wing mirror indicator on a tree branch sticking out of a hedge on a country road a few months back. It put a small hole in the clear section of the indicator. It still worked but over time it started to fill with water from the weather and washing and it was starting to look tatty. Time to replace!

I'd found a genuine replacement on eBay for ÂŁ55.99 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202424928366

But then found some dynamic Audi style ones from China for $46.27 (ÂŁ35.98). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184398340250
There are loads of these for sale on AliExpress but I felt more confident in being able to get my money back via eBay if they turned out to be junk.

They arrived pretty quick and were packaged well. First impressions of the plastic and finish is good. The black lenses are ok, I would have preferred clear like the OEM ones but once fitted the black lenses look ok. Fit of the new plastic part to rest of the mirror is very good and it looks factory.
They are slightly let down in quality and finish by the socket for the original wire plug. The fit isn't as good as the original. The plug was hard to push in and then didn't really seat and click into place like the original, it does fit but I don't think seals as well so I wrapped a little electrical tape around it to protect it from any possible water ingress.

The puddle lights are nice and bright and the indicator isn't bad either. The most disappointing part though is the little indicator that's on the inside of housing next to the glass that you can see when your sitting inside the car now doesn't illuminate. The replacement does have the little bit of plastic to fit in the hole but I guess due to the light being a strip rather than a bulb lighting up the clear plastic it no longer illuminates.

For the money they are good. Unless they are illuminated they look and fit like OEM. As long as your OK with the little inside edge bit no longer flashing I would recommend them.

Thanks Shaun, I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on a set. Someone on onoffs FB page did a set and raved about them and another on here said the clips were iffy. Think I'll wait it out or see if I can mod my oem ones.

I fitted a set of these on my A5 about a year ago and had zero problems with fit and operation, plus my tell tail is still illuminated. I suppose it depends on who makes them as the quality of yours doesn't seem to be as good as the ones I purchased.

I'm seeing them on Ali from $35 to about $75 and cannot see much difference. Plus the variety of puddle lights is interesting. Now that I've got RLS I want puddle lights and have these high output flush LED flood lights I was going to use but cannot seem to find any info of my door modules will support it then having to run the wires. Lol. I definitely like the dynamic signal as it's more eye-catching and I've tinted my markers back already.

Next person to buy a set needs to do a decent write-up and we can pin it in the mods section as I'm sure more are jumping on these as they are available for the mk1. They make a similar side markers as well I've seen that matches the tint and the led strip but dang they want $50 for them.

The clips that fit it all together were fine, no issues there. It was just the plug socket for the OEM wire that wasn't great but it does fit.

When the OEM one was off I had a good look myself at it and thought about if it would be easy to insert a dynamic LED strip in there instead of a bulb. The housing doesn't come apart, looks like it's all plastic thermo wielded together, so it would have to be threaded in though the bulb opening and the LED strip would just have to 'float' inside.

The actual finished quality I think is good and in general I'm pleased with them. When I looked on AliExpress at all the different sellers they all appeared to be identical in that they used a variation of only two different videos to demonstrate the flashing and the still pictures appeared to be the same.

Do you have a link to the seller of your Audi ones? See if they do Tiguan ones as well.

Late to the party here but I really like these. How easy/hard is the install? Also what are the puddle lights like? I was looking at fitting some aftermarket puddle lights when I came across this thread. My Tig mirrors don’t have puddle lights although there is a “cut out” space in the moulding made for some.

Easy to install once you’ve got the mirror off. Puddle lights are very good. Not sure if they would work if you don’t already have them though.

So the other day I was heading home and the car in front of me ran over a bumper or something that resembled one. I dodged it the best I could, but it ended up hitting my driver side mirror and took out the mirror, cover, and some other pieces. The unfortunate part is that I had just installed the blind spot mirrors so there goes 100 bucks, but luckily no body damage so it's alright.

I decided to order the dynamic turn indicators from AliExpress. I'm getting them from two different sellers and will compare them and do a little write up when they get here.

Thanks Iggy, but I saved my stock glass and have it on there currently while I await my parts; definitely appreciate the offer! Now if you happened to have a mirror cap you could spare I would be down for that... How the heck are they 60+ bucks a piece?! I ordered a black cap off AliExpress because it’s much cheaper and in the mean time I taped over a cut out piece of contractor grade black trash bag with Gorilla Tape to protect the wiring. Doesn’t look too bad from afar and will do until my parts come in.
