Front left suspension Rattle

This one has got me a bit buffaloed about 7k miles ago I occasionally heard a heavy rattle in the front left suspension after hitting a bump. I quickly passed it off as yet another end link about to fail. So when I was working on the Tiguan over the weekend I pulled the tire, set a jack stand under the lunch weld and used the jack to compress the suspension like it was on the ground and started hanging things around with various pressure on the suspension. Can not find anything loose, or look like it's going bad. I even checked the top strut nut as I've had a car that actually was a bit loose and was making a similar noise. I even went as far as prying on the bushings and ball joints. I'm stumped. Even the wheel liner is solid in place.

I'm down to either a strut bearing is coming loose or possibly and hopefully not a wheel bearing. Tire wear is okay. Alignment is good. And I do have my knock off JJJs spacers my buddy built up front but they seem solid.

I'll have it up in the air again this weekend for my 75k service and more work trying to find the boost whistle. (that I'm sure is the charge pipe now) check a few more things as well.

That would be a possibility. I'll definitely check a few more things. Going to get all 4 wheels off the ground this weekend and pull wheels anyway..

Buddy told me to check something and he was dead on front bushing on the LCA is failing. His Passat had the same rattle. So looks like it's time to get some power flex bushings. I did notice on Sunday pushing it thru a few corners the front didn't act as planted as it usually is. I just been contributing it to the bigger wider front tires. Might as well replace both sides.. and refresh some other bits as well. I still need to install my Neuspeed End links as well.

Hello IggytheTiggy,

Sounds like your trying to track down a noise as well as I. I know you answered a few of my post. I tried that subframe space with beefier bolts that go in the corner back one's that are known to cause noise in the front end. And after the change, nope I still get a noise when coming out of park when at a cold RPM shift. I know I have been trying to track down my noise after hitting a pot hole at about 75mph on freeway a few months back. And the Tiguan just does not seem to drive as smooth as did before hitting that darn pot hole.

I am starting to lean to maybe a damaged wheel bearing on the driver side. But hope it is not that. I did notice the Transmission mount on my looks to be sagging from what I can see. I might more investigation on that. But I hope you can track down your issue as well hope I can too.

I do thank you for the advice you have been giving me on what to look for.

Pretty sure for me it's the lca front bushing, it's a fairy heavy thunk when it happens. Got a set of power flex bushings in their way.

My 2013 had a front left (offside) 'creak' When that corner was loaded up, it's had new shocks and a new top mount bearing/bush.

the sound seemed to go away for a few months, then came back with a vengeance just managed to trace it to the bottom of the spring on the shock rubbing on the cup on the suspension leg....The spring where it rested on the cup looked rough and 'rubbed'

put a piece of bicycle inner tube over it, and re assembled.... no more creaking noise .

I know it won't last long ,but at least I know now where the noise is coming from :-|

It ended up being yet another broken end link. I have custom ones on order to compensate for my lift young better ends and fully adjustable.
