My first door ding!

1933 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  SGreen679
So today I washed the Tig off after the roads have dried off from a huge melt and....I discovered a door ding! :headbang:

I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't inspected the job of the automated car wash I used at PetroCanada. And now that I know it's there, I'll always see it, right? I have no clue how old it is but there was white paint on it and I rubbed it all off but there is still a small dent as you might be able to see in the pictures.

SO. What should I do? Should I let it go or should I pay $100 or something to get it fixed? And with that, where could I get it fixed? I dont want some guy ripping off door panels and everything just to get at it, but if it has to be done, I can't do much about it if I want it gone. Any help?

Ya, the first one always hurts the most. I'd say, live with it for awhile. Now it depends on whether you are leasing or purchasing. If leasing, I'd leave it till near the end of your lease and have it along with any others fixed before returning the car. And, if you are going to lease again, they would overlook those little dingies most likely.

If it's a purchase I'd wait a bit as you may just get another one or two. However, if it's really driving you nuts seeing it on your new 2014, then the solution is a paintless dent repair expert. I've personally seen the magic these guys do. When they are finished you'd never know there was ever a dent. Look for a good reputable place. I said wait a bit before because these guys will fix about 5 or 6 dents for a fixed price. You'll pay the same just to have one repaired. Generally, they are mobile and will come to you.

Here is a link to the place that I have seen the unbelievable results on several cars >>> http://www.carrossiermagique.com/index.html . Under the tab "Particulier" you will see the tools of the trade. They often can remove the dents without taking off any door panels.

Good Luck!

The last 3 cars ive had have all been brand new. I would never park where it could be door hit by some idiot.( it helps when you have a blue badge).

Having said that my mate is the same. a few weeks ago he went to the local tescos shopping. the car park is huge and he always parks at the furthest point from the shop

where no cars ever park. when he came out of the shop he had a car either side of him, the car park was only about 1/4 full !!! unbelievable
That sucks my friend. If you're brave you could try the below method. But it might not work on such a small dent on a crease.

Now having the second ding in the driver's door, I put self adhesive rubber strips on the doors. These are not expensive (€56) and are made for the car. If your leasing, the strips can be removed quite easily.

I used this type of repair when I had a ding about 18 months ago. They are amazing. No panels taken out, just skilful use of rods to probe behind the dent and ease it out. You would never know that it had been repaired. What I also did, a short while afterwards, was to buy some VW side strips and had them painted to match the car's colour.

This doesn't work as I know somebody that tried it. Just made a mess. We have a company over in the UK that I have used several times. They use wire and push from inside the door to eliminate the dent. Very, very good and only cost me £35 to have done took around 30mins.
