We are seeing this system on the newer trucks. The Fluid (DEF) is a water/urea mix. It's not that expensive and goes a long way. The exhaust system on the other hand is the cost of a small car. You don't want to rip one off when off roading.

Don't know that adblue fluid that they seem to be going for is £1.30p to £1.40p a litre according to the artical that's expensive and will probably be even more pricey when more vehicles come with the system, it's back over a barrel IMO, now at least one fill up will be almost double your total fill up from just diesel alone. the reason its going to cut the gasses in half thats because thats exactly the amount that will be able to afford to fill it up lol. All jokes aside i did think my next vehicle would be another diesel but with the additional running cost and the fact that the adblue mix isnt used on every single vehicle but still attracts £1 something a litre popularity would only ever see the price rise iMO

It's not that bad. On a big pickup (say 6L engine), it is consumed at about 5% of your fuel consumption. The biggest pains are the fluid freezes and has to have heaters in the tank. It is also very corrosive, so you have to be careful with it on paint, etc. And heaven help you if you mistakenly put some into the fuel. It's worse than gasoline and diesel. it's buy a new engine time.
