EPC and Engine light, pulled codes and need help

Agreed generic scanners aren't much use. Aside from the expensive VCDS many including me use OBD11 which is VW specific and gives a detailed explanation of the fault together with details of date it stored it and if it's repeat how many times. Another good tool is carista, but I've no experience with that. Both of those scanners are affordable.

Over on the mk2 tiguan forum (Volkswagen Tiguan MK2 Forum (tiguanforums.co.uk) there's currently a discussion on octane, and whether 95 or 99 should be used, so yes 87 isn't great and because of this many US and Canadian members report carbon build up in the manifolds.
