Hi! My pretty 2011 Tiguan is in gorgeous shape… except that either the timing belt went or the engine is kaput. Two mechanics (that don’t work on vws) told me it was done.
I live in a rural
Seaside village and having it towed to the city would be an expensive chance for hope. The water pump was changed not long ago but now it won’t drive or start.
Anyone have experience that might say it could be simply the timing belt?
Thanks in advance!

If it won't start and the mechanic says it is done, then the only thing I can think of is your timing chain skipped, or something may break that loosened the chain and may cause your piston to bend your Valves badly. Or maybe a lack of coolant seized the engine by overheating.

Can you find a local mechanic that will work on it? If you can, I would look into the local shop to check it and do the repair. Otherwise, you have two options, tow it where a repair can be made and hope it is not very costly on top of the towing fee, or park it until you can find some way to sell it to someone as a parts car or fixer-upper.
