In Australia, diesel is still relatively unpopular. Having said this a lot more auto makers are bringing in diesel models. In fact the most popular Golf in Australia is diesel.

The price of diesel is AUD $1.60 per litre and usually you can get petrol (the higher octane) Premium petrol for about $1.50 per litre. So the difference in not that great, but usually the diesel engine cost about $2,000 more.

Diesels are becoming more popular in Australia, and I understand in Europe it is your natural choice of engine, but has anyone driven or own a normal petrol version. I would be interested in comments regarding performance, fuel consumptions, drivability, noise etc.
