Good afternoon, I am new to your forum so please forgive me if this has been answered before,

I have been bought a new Radio/GPS/Bluetooth unit to go in my TIG.

I am bit confused on how to find out if I require the CANBUS unit fitted on my Modle, the installation instruction are at the best vague on the subject

Most of my door indications etc are on the dashboard, the only things that appear on the radio are the parking sensor and the steering colum controls.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

I am fairly confident that no model of Tiguan will suffer from canbus issues, due to this issue being resolved in mid 2007 on other models, just before the Tiguan came out.

What headunit do you have now, is it an RCD510?

You could scan it with VCDS or similar and see what the part number is in module 19, or physically remove some panels on the lower dash to see the module itself.

Morning Skard,

The unit fitted at present is:

CD PLAYER HEADUNIT RCD510 NON SAT NAV TOUCH SCREEN, the only thnig it displays is the parking sensors graphics

the unit I have been bought is:

CAMECHO Naviagion Car Radio GPS for VW, CD Player 7 Inch Touch Screen with USB / SD Card Slot Bluetooth FM Receiver

The installation appears to be straight forward except for the the canbus unit which was supplied with the kit, it give you two option fit or dont fit, I am a loss as to which is correct for my model of Tiguan

I would use it. The stock radio gets a can signal to turn on and off. Also without it you will lose steering wheel controls

Ah I see, apologies I was thinking of the OEM CAN gateway battery drain issue.

As mentioned by Shawn this adaptor gives your stereo the instructions to go on and off when it should. As well as integration with parking sensor display, Illumination adjustment from the dial and so on.
Unlike previous generations where you could move wiring around for a switched live etc.
