#559708 CAI?

Posted by goose on 15 June 2019 - 11:57 AM

Anyone know if this would fit a 2016 Tiguan SEL 4motion 2.0L?
aFe Power Magnum FORCE 51-11892 VW GTI Performance Intake System (Dry, 3-Layer Filter)

I went for a kit for the Mk6 Golf Gti/Scirocco Mk3..   https://www.thepiper...0_p23348537.htm

Altho i had to tweak and fabricate my own support bracket for the Tig.

This aFe one looks very similar

What does CAI mean? Can you please make your title more meaningful.

CAI = Cold Air Induction :)

I too have a 2011 4Mo Tig, and i had a 3" downpipe with 200 cell hi-flo cat, made by Pipeworx in Liverpool..  works a treat. Its connected to the stock mid section and back box, so theres zero extra noise.

Looked at loads pre-made online, but nobody would confirm fitment on 4Mo Tigs, only front wheel drive Tigs.

I think you can buy one like mine (or catless) via their ebay shop now..  but im not sure if they ship to the Lebanon?!

Update on the above:

MRC Tuning was a complete bust..  after all the phone calls and prep, i took a day off work, got there at 8am, and by 10.30 they said they can't do a thing as the ECU was locked by the people who the previous owner had the stage 1 tune done by, and they said they were too scared to do anything in case they "bricked" the ECU. Not Happy.

Got a second opinion from Jamie at JTech Automotive, who referred me to Jabba Sport in Peterborough.

Chatted with Kevin @ Jabba who assured me he could do the job.

Went to Jabba...  Kevin did a few baseline dyno pulls, and got 265bhp. He then pulled the ECU from the car, and we found it had been cracked open the old fashioned way, and had a Revo map applied, and then re-sealed.

He then applied the stock VW 2.0 tsi map and did a few more dyno pulls, and got 218bhp (18bhp over stock - most likely due to the bigger intercooler and downpipe).

He then got to work on writing his own map, and got up to a safe 280bhp, and then mapped the DSG gearbox for faster shifts and launch control :)

Cannot recommend Jabba highly enough..  they are great people and their work is outstanding (and very reasonably priced).

Prior to the stage 2 tune i pulled a 0-60 of 5.49 secs...  now with launch control @ 4k rpm i pulled a 5.1 sec 0-60. One very happy goose.

Not bad for the baby K03 turbo...   just imagine another 100bhp if i go for the Golf R K04 upgrade

Anyhoo..   that'll do for now. Started my new job at Canon this week, and hope to exchange and complete on the new house late July/early Aug.

ps. for anyone interested in air-cooled veedubs..   i made some headway with my engine rebuild :)

Having not done anything on my Tig for a while (other than new tyres, a crankcase PCV, and a camshaft position sensor) whilst I sort a new job/house, and focus on my Karmann Ghia resto project...  the Tig is now booked in at MRC Tuning on Friday for a Stage 2 engine map and DSG map - cant bloomin wait!! :woot:

Dyno sheet to follow.

#553916 new wheels on my tiguan , need coil overs now?

Posted by goose on 14 January 2019 - 09:07 AM

here some wheels from a q5 ive fitted to the tiguan , i need the back end lowering now about 30mm and have heard og mk5 golf gti springs fitting straight on to give that instant 30mm , anyone heard of this?

Not heard of that myself..  and I've no doubt the mk5 springs fit and are lower, but I'd personally be wary of their load rating as the Tig is heavier than a mk5 GTi

Where did you get the side buttons for the seats or is it just covers ?

They are eBay Chinese specials..  they are complete replacement buttons (i think they are from a Passat?), pretty cheap, and ok quality.

#545508 Tig at the Nurburgring - Aug 2018

Posted by goose on 10 August 2018 - 02:24 PM

Can anybody race car in Nürburgring?
is it free?
Do you sign some paper if something goes wrong?

The Nurburgring is in 2 parts..  the south loop is the GP Circuit, and is closed off for race days; the north loop (or nordschleife, in German) is essentially a toll road. It costs 30 euros a lap (at weekends - less midweek), is one way traffic, and like parts of the Autobahn, has no speed limit.

You get some crazy fast cars and talented and knowledgeable locals there who know the track like the backs of their hands...  so us "tourists" spend most of our laps checking your mirrors and indicating and moving to the right hand side of the track to get out of the way.

Still... it's totally worth it, to have driven the longest and most dangerous track in the world :) you just need to be true to your own cars abilities and personal talent.

And whatever you do..  as a novice, do NOT go chasing lap times!!!!!

You can get charged for:

1. Recovery

2. Ambulance

3. Fire engine

4. Helicopter

5. Per metre of damaged armco

6. Track closure time (!)

Not to mention..  the cost of writing off your own car, and/or someone else's.

I have heard many horror stories of people having to re-mortgage their houses to pay back the Ring.

I should add, the Tig was flawless the whole way there, and for my laps..  but did flash an EPC light on the way home and cut its power. A 10 Min cool down and off we went again with no issues all the way back to the Shire.

The 2x cars with me were a 2017 Merc GLA45 AMG (385bhp), and a 2013 BMW E92 M3 (430bhp)...   so yes, not only was I the heaviest car, i was also the least powerful too - that said, they arrived with back ache and head aches, whereas i was fresh as a daisy lol!

As some of you guys know, a few friends and I trundle across Europe to the 'Ring every year for a few laps, and this year is no exception...   here's just a few snaps of our 3 day adventure:-

Apologies for the BMW F80 M3 Ring Taxi...  but it was EPIC! My 75 yr old dad, a friend, and I went out in it with a pro driver behind the wheel, and he did a 8min 17sec lap - with 4 adults in the car, and in busy traffic (circa 120 cars on the track at once!).

As a comparison, (and a complete novice!) I was about 2 mins slower than that LOL.

I'm pretty sure i can shave a good 30 seconds or more if I wasn't slowing and moving out the way of the faster cars all the time.

Loads more pics and vids to share if peeps are interested.

#545004 More Power 2.0TSI

Posted by goose on 31 July 2018 - 08:36 AM

I Poland we have projects where you don't need to change anything inside engine. 350-360 is common. Gearbox and torque is problem.

I don't know what engine code goose have but CCZB is the same like in MKVI. CCZD with have only less power is similar.

You can check MKVI pojects to see each stage. Of course it depends on motor condition

As buba says, this a common upgrade in the US and Oz..  and as such there are many bolt on kits to do this upgrade.

It essentially takes a mk6 Golf GTI engine and turns it into a mapped Mk6 Golf R engine :)

Stock internals should be fine (again as buba says - engine condition depending!)..  but a catch can, upgraded high pressure fuel pump, and bigger injectors would be good supporting mods.

#544932 DSG Gearbox Seal Woes

Posted by goose on 30 July 2018 - 08:49 AM

So last week i got stuck with a £700 bill...    of which £680 was mostly labour and £20 was for 2x seals !!

I noticed some oily spots on my driveway, but they weren't black engine oil, and they were to one side, closer to the FNS wheel. I got the car up on ramps and removed the under tray to find that EVERYTHING, and i mean everything, was covered in an oily film. Three hours of cleaning later, i got it booked in to see if my garage and i could trace the leak.

So sub-frame off, and a whole bunch of other bits, we find that the DSG oil was leaking out the shaft seals between the gearbox and the transfer case...

Fingers crossed its all sorted now..   as I have my annual 1000 mile round trip to the Nurburgring this weekend :)

Something to be aware of i guess, for the DSG Tig owners.
