Hi

I have a 2008 4motion TDI Sport Tiguan and noticed yesterday that the oil sump cover has rotted and fallen off (not solid, just a fabric covering) - VW want £200 for labour and new part - any suggestions about what to do ?  I don't go off-road normally - just highway and round town / some back-roads - but I am in Italy at the moment and potential for higher snow lines etc.

VW says:  There is no danger to drive the car without but we do recommend to have that cover fitted for protection against  debris on the road ( especially because the oil level sensor is exposed without the cover  ).

Thanks!

Bruce

I've never seen just the cloth ones before, you still have the plastic skid pan?

I was going to say. Mines a plastic pan, but no material on the inside.

My Tig is 2012 and it has a plastic cover, no material on the inside.

I have put larger stainless steel washers on the fixings for mine to make it more secure.

Covering the actual sump itself is that cloth material then covered by the big under tray cover

That material looks like the thermal/sound insualtion from the sump.

Without the plastic cover in place, the insulation on the sump would not last long. - it's only held in place by a few plastic clips
