Hello everyone !! I have a question to clear my understanding!!

I own the 2008 Tiguan 4 Motion 2.0TSI. This is my first SUV and 4 wheel drive. I have still not used the car on any off-roading. I was wondering what is the right time to use it? Is it only meant for descent? or I should use it both for climb and descent? I am planning a drive tomorrow on a "4WD-Only" road, should I use it right when I hit the road irrespective of climb or descent?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks !! Have a nice weekend everybody !!

The car will automatically decide if the 4WD needs to be activated. A 4WD only road may well prove too much for a Tiguan though.

If you have the Off Road button use at all low speed orbit just shuts off. Also for coming down long hills it will brake for you.

The off road button is very effective but only below about 20kph, it changes braking, acceleration, abs system etc etc and it locks a 50/50 torque split front/rear. It’s not used for anything faster as the normal permanent 4WD takes over. I used it quite a bit in my early Tig and found it excellent in hard going. The new MkII has a different system that is equally good.
