How do I replace the cup holder in the rear of the console of a 2014 Tiguan?

Hi, The cup holder in the rear of my 2014 Tiguan center console is broken.
I have purchased a replacement, but how do I fit it?

From my VW dealer, I was under the impression that it was just two screws to remove it.

I removed the two screws, but it does not come out.

The replacement part has a giant flange all around it.  Making me think I have got to remove the center console and replace it from inside the centre console.

Is this correct, if yes, how do I do it please?

Thanks, Chris

The cup holder you pictured is Sonic welded to the console. If yours remove with 2 screws there is another one readilly available. If not you have to drill out all the welds and reglue the new one in to the console back.

The pictures are the part I purchased straight out of the box?
How to I take the console apart to have a look at the console back?

OK, done! Here's how...

No need to unscrew any screws.  Instead, using a flat-headed screwdriver prise out the swivel pin at the bottom left and then the bottom right.  This will remove the broken cup-holder mechanism.

Do the same with the recently purchased replacement part.

Next, engage the left pin and keeping the unit level engage the right side pin.  In the process you also have to also connect to two smaller pins in the bottom center.

Easily typed, but does require a mirror, a flat-headed screwdriver, a flashlight and a lot of patience!  Good luck!

Well done. I am so glad mine came with a pocket instead of the cup holders. Our Golf came with the cup holders and the kids, when younger opened it, tripped over it, smashed it, etc. Finally just glued it shut and told them they could no longer have drinks in the car.

That's one "permanent" solution to the problem :) ...... cost effective too

Thank you very much Chris! My cup holder panel came out. I used flat screwdriver to prize the inner assembly out and fix the panel with them. Tomorrow I will try to put it into the console following your guide.
