I have a UK reg Tiguan Allspace 2018 (we love it). We have moved to Portugal - the on board computer management settings has an option under lights for setting 'driving in left or right hand traffic'. I have it set to 'driving on the right'. I imagined that was working but since going for my first inspection here in Portugal (the one needed to register Portuguese plates)  am told that that is not making any change to the headlights at all and that the lights are still pointing up to the left. VW Portugal have tested and agreed that the ccomputer setting it is not adjusting the beam from left to right, nor making any change at all. They are being of no further help :/

I bought the car knowing we would be moving out to Portugal and knowing that there was this software based option to adjust the direction of headlight beam. It was the reason i went for this car. The lights are full LED so changing them out is not an option do to the multiple thousand £ price tag for new hardware.

Can anyone shed any light on why the software might not be working or if there is another way of adjusting the direction of the beam? Thanks in advance.

Matt

Matt, welcome aboard. A quick little question. In the field "Where are you located?" Should this not read Portugal? This may help you out when members reply to any of your questions. They will provide UK references and/or sources instead of ones in Portugal.

Cheers!

On your next visit back to the UK from Portugal take it to  a UK dealer and ask him to sort it out as i assume it was bought from a main dealer here in the UK :)

@Old Dog yes strictly speaking i'm in Portugal now, only just moved here and as it is a UK car that i am asking about I thought it was better to use UK as origin but happy to change it over np. BTW do you think my post would be better viewed in the general forum? Cheers, Matt

Hi mattjames, I see your logic now. What I just did was adding UK in front of your Tig field which should cover all bases. Thanks for changing to Portugal.

Your post is good here.

All the best to you there in Portugal.

Cheers,

OD

For curiosity sake pull up to a wall at night, say 5 metres back. Take note of headlight cutoff. Flip it to the other mode for Left. Shut off headlights and back on and see if they change. Should just be the cutoff plate in one headlight dropping and the other raising so all you will note is the very minor cutoff change.

I remember having to sort it out on a Lancia I had to rent in Spain and take back to the UK, but the were manual. Had to flip a lever on the side of each headlight to change from LH to RH driving. And all it made was a very tiny difference in the cutoff of the headlights.

Doesn't work that way. There is no shield to change the pattern

It uses the AFS system to turn the projector away from oncoming traffic

Here's a video from my car (RHD), so in travel mode, the AFS shifts the lights to the left to avoid blinding the right hand side traffic
