As there was nothing of any real interest going on today in the UK 19th May 2018 at 12:00pm and I have seen weddings before I decided to use this time to accomplish something I have been trying to find time to get sorted for months.
Since fitting side skirts to my Tiguan I realised the standard jack would no longer be able to lift the my car in the event of a puncture. After a bit of eBay searching I decided a jack from a Nissan X-Trail 2000 - 2007 shape would work perfectly so found an ebay listing with all the tools and polystyrene surround delivered for just £20 - bargain.
When it arrived I offered it up to the sill and realised it would work, but would need to centre notch widening so a bit of grinding later and I had a perfect Tiguan side skirt jack.
So now that my jack was ready it was time to work out where to put the jack as it has just been floating around in the boot for the last couple of months. So I decided to merge my original under floor polystyrene and the Nissan polystyrene to give me somewhere nice and tidy to put the new tools but keep the under floor looking as OEM as possible (please note, no VW polystyrene was damage in the process)
Original VW under floor polystyrene I had to work with:
Nissan polystyrene I had to work with:
Then after a little bit of semi careful measuring and cutting I was left with something like this:
Tools installed and everything back in the boot nice and tidy, very happy! Its a cheap and efficient way to lift your car with skirts on and keep all the tools required tucked away without loosing any space I was using before
Boot floor back down with no side effects it all sits below the required level:
For anyone who is interested this is how much extra clearance you get with the Nissan Jack:
