Hi,

Can anyone recommend a product to treat the 'chrome' trims around the windows and also the roof rails?

I know they are aluminium but i am not sure what to use to clean them? they are very dull after 8 years or the previous owner not cleaning the exterior of the tig properly.

thanks

Brian

Don't they have a plastic coating on them?
So no amount of cleaning product will help because they discolour under the coating?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but this was the case with my Audi's, I ended up getting all my bright work wrapped in satin black vinyl.

Yeah I know what you mean because I keep my cars clean too, all the Vag range seem to do it.
unfortunately there is no way round it. Come time it will discolour and then milky.
I have sold cars in the past because of this but so far my Tig is holding up really really well.

Thanks for the replies.

I think the wrapping route is a good idea, I must have a look and see how easy the trim on the rear quarters comes off.

Don't take it off. Put it in somewhere to get it wrapped professionally.

It's aluminum under the anodized coating. If you want to sand it off with some 600 sandpaper then you can Polish the aluminum to a chrome looking shine. As I have done all my aluminum on my engine. Looks really sharp. As soon as can remember how to load a pic I will.

For Chrome cleaning and taking off rust, turtle wax in a 8oz green bottle is great for removing rust and putting a nice coat of wax on chrome. But if you have to take rust off it will be discolored depending on how much rust you had to take off.

It's not a permanent fix and does need reapplying every so often but I've found that a decent coating of good old WD40 brightens up the aluminium and lessens the 'milky' look in the lacquer. d1c211283ccd5704621904c950bc782a.jpg
