If your Tig is 4 wheel drive, then despite VAG not indicating it is "ESSENTIAL", but is purely referred to under the section in the VW Booklet 1.1 Service as "Additonal work", I consider the Haldex oil change is absolutely essential - at the very least should you, like I have had recently; a potentially very expensive failure (at VW prices) of the Haldex system - you might be eligible for a "goodwill claim" to VW through a franchised dealership.
Obviously if VW put the requirement in their multi-vehicle booklet for 4WD vehicles it is recognised as necessary. My Tiguan 2.0 200 tsi Sport requires a Haldex oil change at 40,000 miles but this should not be confused with, as can happen; the rear axle differential gear oil - it is a totally different and specialist oil for use in the Haldex system. This might beg the question are those carrying out servicing and maintednance who are charged with changing the Haldex oli aware of this dfifference when draining and refilling of either or both of the rear Haldex and the seperate differential oils?
Please see my latest blog in the Engine and transmissions section of the Tiguan forum for events concerning my Haldex failure at 83K miles only!
